@rimehaze-translations I see I see… I won’t deny that the writing of soul eater is very 2000s era but I was more so doubtful that the original Japanese text would include the cultural equivalent of a homophobic slur. I don’t know how much liberty these translations took wrt some of that stuff? But also it’s ohkubo. in 2006. he would absolutely say that I should not be surprised. To be fair to ohkubo it is also giriko and we are definitely not meant to be fans of his so I don’t think his thought process was “i hate lgbt and I need to include homophobic slurs” if anything I think it would lean more towards 2000s era stuff using gay as an insult. Or maybe he just thought giriko being homophobic was an important character trait (doubtful but an incredibly funny interpretation). As much as I rail on ohkubo for being disturbingly horny I don’t believe he is secretly a huge bigot.
